Positively: Adults (22+) Coping with HIV/AIDS

Freddie Winner, Time Inc Health’s 2001 International Health & Medical Media Awards

Gold Medal Winner, 2001 National Health Information Awards

Living with HIV/AIDS is physically and emotionally challenging. Caring for someone with these challenges can also be extremely difficult. This video shares the stories of three adults coping with HIV/AIDS and the people who surround them. It gives concrete suggestions about where to find information and support for:

  • Moving through the denial period after diagnosis
  • Adhering to and tolerating difficult medication regimens
  • Coping with and treating mental health disorders like depression and bipolar disorder in addition to HIV/AIDS
  • Disclosing HIV status to community, family and friends

The video also shows:

  • The benefits of support groups, individual counseling and other mental health and support services
  • The stresses of caring for someone who is HIV+ and caregivers’ needs for support

The 24 page booklet included with this video contains additional information about mental health services, professionals and places to look for help.
