Going Home: Home Care for Adults
Hosted by Dana Reeve
When an adult is disabled due to an injury
or illness, the entire family is forced to cope with
new roles and relationships. Parents may become caregivers
for life, sometimes suddenly when an ill son or daughter
returns to the family home. Adult siblings and friends
wonder what they can do to help.
Often, the biggest
struggle is finding someone to answer the many questions.
Who will pay for the care so the
patient can stay at home? How do we find community
organizations willing to help? What kind of help
will we need?
This program tells the stories of three
families who have come up with positive and resourceful
answers.
Some of the issues they deal with include
- Finding
time for caregivers' personal lives to continue
- Networking with other families
- Managing home care
nurses and aides
- Finding support to face end-of-life
issues and care
- Working to keep the adult as a
part of his or her community
